Three Keys is an intimate showcase of three distinctive musicians writing songs that melt hearts and traverse genre boundaries. Marcus Whale (Collarbones/Black Vanilla), Banoffee and Brendan Welch play their own original work and some choice covers in stripped-back, acoustic arrangements for piano and voice at this unmissable one-off show. Two Bright Lakes DJs glide audiences between sets.
Marcus Whale has been making music under a number of names including Collarbones, Scissor Lock and Black Vanilla and has collaborated with everyone from Synergy Ensemble and Fishing to Yo Gabba Gabba! His songs written with Collarbones have stirred fans over three albums of genre-smashing pop music; for Three Keys he’ll be performing raw versions of his favourites.
Banoffee is the sweet solo sound of Martha Brown, a Melbourne songwriter with a keen ear for vintage synthesizers and modern RnB. Her debut EP was released in August this year featuring singles ‘Got It’ and ‘Ninja’ and has received love across the globe from Saint Heron to The Fader. Closer to home, Banoffee recently supported Architecture in Helsinki and played to adoring crowds at Splendour in the Grass.
Brendan Welch is a Melbourne troubadour whose stirring folk songs and unexpected cover of Robyn’s Dancing on My Own have struck a chord with audiences, appearing repeatedly at the Melbourne Folk Club at Bella Union and supporting everyone from Paul Kelly to Tim Rogers. His haunting voice and accomplished, honest songwriting will woo, charm and captivate.
